I was saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and birthday-sharing partner, James Earl Jones.
Yes, he and I were born on the same day, January 17, 1931.
We shared experiences on the telephone, and on his visit to Richmond, he joked that he wanted to practice the “real” southern accent with me for one of his movies.
We joined in panel discussions in several cities about racial progress in this country.
His passing leaves a missing link to our past and the continuing need for leadership in demanding what is right and criticizing what is wrong.
With sincerest condolence.
