I didn’t have to get to be 90 years old to know that I was a grandson of slaves.
But as we, again, observe Black History Month in the wake of recurring racism and overt examples of educational resegregation, we must do more than set aside a specified time, day or month to address America’s continued dilemma, as I’ve noted in this video.
That I was able to be elected to the single most powerful law making position in the state where our nation was founded, slavery was instituted, and a war was fought to preserve that inhumanity, feigned observances are meaningless.
Our nation needs leadership, our state needs leadership, every year, every month, every day.
The people demand it.
