Yesterday, I joined John Reid on WRVA.
We discussed a range of issues, including Trump’s initiatives in his first full week as president in rapidly seeking to fulfill his campaign promises. We addressed the need for those national officials to respond to the people who are enduring natural disasters. They must show connection with the people and provide support showing the reasons they were elected.
We analyzed the results of the most recent Wilder School Commonwealth Poll. It revealed that in this year’s race for Virginia governor, Democratic candidate and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (44%) leads Republican candidate and Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (34%), with 17% of those polled still undecided.

The poll also showed that even though the next U.S. Senate election in Virginia is not until 2026, there is speculation that Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin might pursue the seat of incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner. Respondents were asked whom they would support if that Senate race were held today. The results showed that 45% would support Warner, while 38% would support Youngkin.
The General Assembly session is showing signs of partisan divisions and logjams. Though not unusual in politics, the times call for a demonstration of reaching across the aisle and displaying bipartisan leadership.
We did not discuss John’s intentions to seek the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor, nor the number of candidates from both sides seeking that post — a precursor to a gubernatorial run — raises additional interest.
This was John’s last show on WRVA and I wish him well in his future endeavors.
Stay tuned.
