The depth of the history of racism is unfathomable to many in our country today, despite continued widespread racial inequality in many realms. Throughout my life, I have been involved in efforts to correct and ultimately end that continuation. The desegregation of the armed forces by President Truman shows one such model, and imperfect though it may have been, the impact was certainly substantial, both individually and collectively.
I was pleased to be involved in the BBC documentary, “Fighting Together in Korea.” Perhaps, few realize how important the integration of troops was to our country’s continued progress, but it is time that more facts like these were made known.
