Yesterday, as we remembered Korean War Armistice Day, I sat down with Jim Triesler, Executive Director, at the Virginia War Memorial to discuss my military service during the Korean War.
You can view the recorded event here.
The military was my first lesson in leadership, and the demonstrative evidence of the need to demand what was right and to criticize what was wrong prevailed.
My military experience and those foundational lessons in leadership are what propelled me to pursue a lifelong career to advocate for equity, justice, and education for all people.
I hope that my fellow Virginians and Americans will recall the meaning of service and sacrifice during this time, as we must address the pervasive and institutional inequities if we are to have the changes that we seek.
