This morning, I was a guest on Richmond’s Mornings with John Reid. You can listen to the full interview here. We discussed many topics including the city’s crime rate, leadership, and a second referendum on bringing a casino to Richmond.
The city’s problems with crime, shootings, and drugs are real and the crime rate will not go away on its own. I spoke of the need to listen to the people. It was pointed out that community groups have tried to meet with the Mayor to discuss several issues, but they say that they have been unable to do so. During my tenure as Governor and Mayor, we incorporated community involvement and realized that it was the best way to help combat the violence and crime rates in the respective areas.
It seems that money has been, and is being proposed on things not connected to correcting the more pressing issues. If you want to see where the capital city of the commonwealth is relative to public education and crime; all you have to do is look at the statistics.
We can do better than this; we must do better than this. If not now, when?
Stay tuned.
