Today the nation pauses to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. We should be mindful of the unfinished agenda before us. We cannot afford the luxury of a relaxed agenda when it comes to demanding what is right and criticizing what is wrong.

There remains a pressing need to address the issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Pointing fingers at others does not absolve us of responsibility to do what we should and CAN do to make the good better and the better best.

Increased numbers of those proclaiming so to do ring hollow when we assess the actual results of those efforts.

The “urgency of now” is before us NOW. I am not content to usher in a better tomorrow. I know we can have a better TODAY.

In pursuing this “more perfect union,” we cannot be content with allowing the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness to markedly differ from state to state.

The leaders in our cities, counties, and states must manifest the basic ingredients of what is projected as a fair and just society.

This day should be celebrated as an awakening to that call for a fair and just society. We can and we must continue in our efforts to eliminate the influence of racism sexism, and any of those forces that move us, as a nation, to ignore our founding principles, even though they were ignored by the founders.

The reins are in our hands now, and we are horsed in the more meaningful direction of truth, liberty, and justice for ALL.

Stay tuned.
